  • Moon Nakshatra: Ashlesha (until 3:15 PM), followed by Magha

Vrat & Puja Rituals

  • Sankalpa (Morning Vow): Wake up early, take a purifying bath, wear clean clothes, and take a mental resolve (Sankalpa) to observe the fast with devotion.

  • Fasting Rules: A complete waterless fast (Nirjala) or fruit-and-milk diet (Phalahar) is traditionally observed. Avoid grains, cereals, salt, and non-vegetarian food.

  • Abhishekam & Offerings: Perform Abhishekam on the Shiva Lingam using water, raw milk, curd, honey, ghee, and tender coconut water. Offer fresh Bilva leaves (Bel Patra), white flowers, and sacred ash (Bhasma).

  • Mantra Chanting: Meditate and chant the Panchakshari Mantra “Om Namah Shivaya”, the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra, and recite the Shiva Chalisa or Linga Ashtakam, especially during Nishita Kaal.

  • Parana (Breaking the Fast): Conclude the fast on the morning of September 10 after sunrise and a final prayer to Lord Shiva.
